Activities/Thematic Focus

  • Landscape planning foundations, resources, methods and strategies (legal and administrative framework, nature conservation and landscape management visions and quality targets, needs and activities, success monitoring, acceptance studies, new media, etc.)
  • Conceptual work on the relationship between landscape planning and other nature conservation policy instruments and provisions (impact mitigation rules, general landscape protection, protected areas, farming and forestry best practice, etc.)
  • Strategies for safeguarding ecosystems and landscapes, with particular focus on human settlement and the planning of provision for recreation
  • Strategies for reducing land consumption, with particular focus on landscape planning
  • Conservation-based conceptual work on taking landscape planning needs into account in other environmental and spatial planning processes (spatial planning and zoning) and vice versa; assessment tools
  • Involvement in planning for the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
  • Involvement in coordinating regional plans under sections 7 (5), 7 (6) and 14 of the German Federal Regional Planning Act (ROG)
  • Maintaining and updating the German landscape planning directory
