Activities/Thematic Focus

• Coordination, conceptual ongoing development, monitoring and control of BfN grant funding programmes covering National Biodiversity Program, research and development projects under the Federal Environment Ministry’s Environment Research Plan (UFOPLAN), testing and development projects, large-scale conservation projects, funding for organisations
• General and fundamental Agency-related issues, including compiling and updating work and research programmes and annual plans
• Developing and publishing general plans, strategies, programmes and reports on conservation and use of nature and the environment (including the ‘Nature Data’ series of publications)
• Cooperation with the German Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) and other national ministries, including answering questions from the German Bundestag
• Addressing general conservation issues with members of the German Bundestag, Länder (state) parliaments and lobby groups
• Working with Länder conservation ministries and agencies, the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU), the German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU), the German Environment Ministers Conference (UMK) and the German Deputy Environment Ministers Conference (ACK)
• Working with conservation organisations
• Working with the German Federal Environment Fund (DBU)
• The UNESCO Man and the Biosphere programme (MAB), including administration for the national MAB committee
