  • Processing applications for import and export permits and reexport certificates for live fauna and flora and edible derivatives of species protected under CITES and the EU CITES Regulation
  • Processing importers’ applications for exemption from prohibitions on possession and marketing under the German Federal Nature Conservation Act
  • Accrediting establishments for artificial propagation/breeding of CITES Annex I plants and animals for commercial use
  • Verifying compliance with criteria for scientific establishments to participate in the labelling system for international trade, registering German participating entities with the CITES secretariat, and keeping the national register of participating entities
  • Dealing with issues of animal protection, appropriate accommodation, animal transportation, losses in transit, and animal marking in cross-border trade with protected animals
