Hunted species protected under the German Federal Ordinance on the Conservation of Species (BArtSchV)
Hunting trophies from species listed in Annex 1 to BArtSchV but not in Annex IV to the Habitats Directive and not in the Birds Directive can be imported from third countries (countries outside of the European Union) without a permit under species conservation legislation.
This applies for example to the following hunted species:
- Musk ox (Ovibos moschatus)
- Red squirrel (European squirrel) (Sciurus vulgaris)
- Wolverine (Gulo gulo)
