Caves not open to the public
NATURA 2000 Code: 8310
Definition:
Caves and semi-caves, not open to the public or not routinely exploited for tourism, including their water bodies and streams. Caves normally host specialist animal species (troglobites) and may include endemic cave species living exclusively in certain cave systems.
Notes on habitat mapping:
Caves should primarily be notified based on their relevance for fauna, e.g. as bat roosts. For cartographic depiction it is normally sufficient to show the cave entrance.
Additional notes:
Karstic caves often contain stalagtites; in most cases more or less round water-filled cave systems have formed below the karst water level.
