Sub-Atlantic oak-hornbeam forests (Stellario-Carpinetum)

NATURA 2000 Code: 9160

Definition:

Sub-Atlantic and Central European oak-hornbeam forests on intermittently or continuously damp soils with a high groundwater level (Stellario-Carpinetum). These occur in a primary form on sites which are not suited to beech (intermittently wet), and as secondary woodlands, i.e. first degree replacement communities of beech forests resulting from historic site uses.

Notes on habitat mapping:

The woodlands are assigned to this type and distinguished from  Galio-Carpinetum oak-hornbeam forests (9170) by their hygrophilous species and by characteristic differential species (e.g. Galium sylvaticum).
