Alpine Larix decidua and/or Pinus cembra forests
NATURA 2000 Code: 9420
Definition:
Larch forests and larch-Swiss stone pine forests at the sub-alpine timberline, in Germany for instance in the Berchtesgaden Alps on deep 'Tangel' (raw humus) rendzinas. European larch and Swiss stone pine may form either pure or mixed stands, and may be associated with spruce. Canopy cover is often as low as 30-60%.
Notes on habitat mapping:
Stands outside of the sub-alpine zone and outside of the natural range of the European larch are excluded (larch plantations).
