Health status, age distribution and reproduction of Baltic Sea porpoises

• Porpoises investigated in the present project originated from Poland and Latvia.
• The majority of porpoises were by-caught in fishing nets.
• The main pathological finding was bronchopneumonia.
• Animals showed mainly mild pathological lesions.
• The majority of investigated animals were subadults and did not reach sexual ma-turity.
• According to those findings by-catch has a major impact on the reproductivity of porpoises in the waters of Poland and Latvia.
