Health status, age distribution and reproduction of Baltic Sea porpoises
-
Porpoises investigated in the present project originated from Poland and Latvia.
-
The majority of porpoises were by-caught in fishing nets.
-
The main pathological finding was bronchopneumonia.
-
Animals showed mainly mild pathological lesions.
-
The majority of investigated animals were subadults and did not reach sexual ma-turity.
-
According to those findings by-catch has a major impact on the reproductivity of porpoises in the waters of Poland and Latvia.
