Marine Protected Areas for harbour porpoises: Selection and monitoring using satelite telemtry, acoustic surveys and passic acoustic detection

Satellite tracking of harbour porpoises can be used to identify areas of high por-poise density.

The distribution of harbour porpoises in Danish waters varies seasonally.
-
The seasonal variation in porpoise distribution found by satellite tracking are sup-ported by passiv acoustic monitoring (using T-PODs).
-
Thus, T-PODs provide a good tool for monitoring presence of porpoises eg. in MPAs.
