Protecting marine biodiversity

Welcome to the Habitat Mare website presented by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation. Inside you will find full information on recent research findings together with background knowledge on marine nature conservation, with the spotlight on Natura 2000 protected sites in the German North Sea and Baltic Sea.

The site now includes a wide range of videos, new maps and topographical reliefs of Natura 2000 sites .

There is more new information in the Monitoring, EU Marine Policy and International Conventions sections. We will keep on adding to these sections in the next few months.

Under Special Projects, you will now find information on the breeding and release project for the two sturgeon species found in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea Acipenser sturio and A. oxyrinchus .
