  • 1. Nature conservation law and other environmental legislation relevant to nature conservation, including national, European and international nature conservation law (such as the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSChG), the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive), genetic engineering law, cross-sectoral environmental law (such as environmental audits and liability, freedom of information and public consultation) and neighbouring areas of law of relevance to nature conservation (such as planning, building, energy, mining, water, agriculture and hunting law)
  • 2. Appraisal of general and fundamental legal and administrative issues; jurisprudential analyses and strategies
  • 3. Legislative drafting; better regulation
  • 4. Acting as consultative agency in the recognition of nature conservation associations under Section 3 (2) of the Environmental Appeals Act (UmwRG)
  • 5. Legal issues relating to marine nature conservation in the EEZ, including appeals and actions, prosecution of administrative offences, ordering of measures to avert dangers and enforcement measures, and ordering of measures under the Environmental Damage Act (USchadG) (Section 58 BNatSChG)
  • 6. Legal issues relating to the national legislation implementing the Berne Convention, CMS, AEWA, Ascobans and the Antarctic Environmental Protocol
  • 7. Appraisal of other legal and administrative issues in connection with spatial planning and approval procedures under other federal and Länder authorities, including release and placing on the market of genetically modified organisms and foods and feeds
  • 8. Fundamental economic and business science issues of nature conservation; funding of nature conservation, use and evaluation of economic instruments of nature conservation
  • 9. Cooperation between business and nature conservation (biodiversity and enterprise)
  • 10. Promotion of nature conservation objectives in other policy areas, including EU agricultural and structural policy
