Privately Protecetd Areas are an important component of national proected area systems. However, no EU country has a systematic inventory of PPAs. So the contribution of PPAs to meeting the forthcoming are-based conservation targets is not demonstrated and politically missed out.

The workshop will discuss what would need to happen to compile a national database for PPAs and how to integrate them into the reporting protocols of national protected areas. Other issues to be discussed are how to secure permanence and succession of PPA governance or ownership and how to create capacity for better management and governance of PPAs.
