Regulations on personal effects for citizens resident for more than 185 days of the year in a European Union country

First import of parts or derivatives of species listed in Annex A of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 or of hunting trophies of species listed in Annex B of Reg.(EC) No. 338/97 as well in Annex XIII of Reg.(EC) No. 865/2006 , for personal effects

This includes, for instance (only examples):

  • First import of hunting trophies of the species Ursus arctos (brown bear), Ursus arctos horribilis (grizzly bear), Ursus maritimus (polar bear), Felis silvestris (wild cat), Canis lupus (wolf), Loxodonta africana (African elephant), Panthera pardus (leopard), Panthera leo (lion) and other species listed in Annex A to Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 or of species listed in Annex B of Reg.(EC) No. 338/97 as well in Annex XIII of Reg.(EC) No. 865/2006
  • First import of ivory carvings of Loxodonta africana (African elephant) or Elephas maximus (Indian elephant)
  • First import of parts or derivatives of other species listed in Annex A of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97

First import of parts or derivatives of species listed in Annex B of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 (with exception of hunting trophies of species listed in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) 865/2006 as well), for personal effects

This includes, for instance (only examples):

First import of hunting trophies of the species Ursus americanus (black bear), Lynx canadensis (North American lynx), Lynx rufus (bobcat) Papio ursinus (Chacma baboon) and other species listed in Annex B to Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 and not additional listed in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) 865/2006

First import of reptile leather or fur products from species listed in Annex B of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97

First import of coral fragments or coral jewellery

First import of parts or derivatives of other species listed in Annex B of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97

First import of caviar up to 125 g in containers that are individually and correct marked

First import of up to three rainsticks

First import of up to three shells of queen conches

First import of up to three shells of giant clams

First import of up to four worked specimens from dead crocodiles of species listed in Annex B to Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 (excluding meat and hunting trophies)

First import of up to four dead specimens of seahorses


Re-import of parts or derivatives of species listed in Annexes A and B of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97, for personal effects

Re-import means the import of a previously exported or re-exported specimen back into the European Community.

Export of parts or derivatives of species listed in Annexes A and B of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97, for personal effects

Export means that parts or derivatives from specimens bred in captivity inside of the European Union or which have been taken from the wild inside of the European Union are to be exported for the first time.

Re-export means that the parts or derivatives have already been imported into the European Union at an earlier date in accordance with the legislation in force.
