Monitoring

Monitoring enables changes in nature and the environment to be identified and quantified and practical and policy-level consequences to be derived from the results. There is broad-based monitoring covering the various species of plants and animals and types of habitats.

In Germany, monitoring activities are largely carried out by volunteers with official surveys being commissioned by the respective authorities. Monitoring surveys and analyses are conducted using scientifically validated methods.
