Climate change

Biodiversity and the climate are closely linked and influence each other.

Climate change poses one of the greatest present and future threats to the diversity of life on earth. This means that human beings and their natural resources are increasingly at risk from the effects of climate change. Nature conservation can actively contribute towards climate change mitigation through targeted measures to maintain or restore ecosystems that have the capacity to absorb and store carbon on a vast scale. In addition, it is necessary to enhance the natural ability of ecosystems to adapt to climate change. The aim of these nature-based or ecosystem-based approaches is to create synergies between nature conservation, climate change and climate adaptation.
