The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) is the Federal Government’s scientific authority for national and international nature conservation.

Since its foundation in 1993, the BfN head office has been located in Bonn. Additional offices are located in Leipzig and on the Island of Vilm near Rügen. The International Academy for Nature Conservation is also located on the Island of Vilm. The National Centre for Biodiversity Monitoring was opened at BfN Leipzig in 2021.
