Regulations on personal effects for citizens resident for more than 185 days of the year in a European Union country

For the export of parts or derivatives of species listed in Annexes A and B of Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 for personal effects, the following documents must be presented to the German customs office at the point of export:

  • The original yellow and green copy of the export permit issued by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN)

This regulation admits the following derogations:

  1. Caviar up to an amount of 125 g (in containers that are individually and correct marked) from sturgeon species listed in Annex B to Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 can be exported for personal effects without any requirement for documentation under species conservation legislation.
  2. Up to three rainsticks (made of cactus wood) from species listed in Annex B to Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 can be exported for personal effects without any requirement for documentation under species conservation legislation.
  3. Up to three shells of queen conches can be exported for personal effects without any requirement for documentation under species conservation legislation.
  4. Up to three shells of giant claims (not exceeding three kg in total, where a specimen may be one intact shell or two matching halves) can be exported for personal effects without any requirement for documentation under species conservation legislation.
  5. Up to four worked specimens from dead crocodiles of species listed in Annex B to Council Regulation (EC) No. 338/97 (excluding meat and hunting trophies) can be exported for personal effects without any requirement for documentation under species conservation legislation.
  6. Up to four dead specimens of seahorses can be exported for personal effects without any requirement for documentation under species conservation legislation.
  7. Specimens of agarwood (Aquilaria spp. and Gyrinops spp.) — up to 1 kg woodchips, 24 ml oil, and two sets of beads or prayer beads (or two necklaces or bracelets) per person.
