A successful conference series: Progress in Marine Conservation in Europe

Every three years, the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation in cooperation with OZEANEUM Stralsund hosts the international conference on Progress in Marine Conservation.

Some 200 scientists and nature conservationists from governmental and non-governmental organisations and from up to 20 countries meet to exchange experience. They present current developments in marine nature conservation and the environmental condition of the world’s oceans. One area of focus is the status quo and management of marine protected areas.

Each conference has a number of thematic focuses such as sustainable fisheries or marine species in special need of conservation. In a broad-based programme, international and national researchers present and discuss new project outcomes. Collaborations and networks are forged and developed. These give key impetus for shared activities in and to the benefit of marine nature conservation.
