Results of Bilateral Talks between Germany and the EU Commission

Following the second biogeographic seminars for the Atlantic Region in The Hague (2002) and for the Continental Region in Potsdam (2003), the German Länder announced to the EU Commission their intentions to propose additional sites to redress the identified deficits. On 21 and 22 January 2004, bilateral talks were held in Bonn between Germany and the EU Commission during which the Länder intentions to report additional sites were assessed for representativity. In many cases, the EU found the proposed sites to provide sufficient representation. In some cases, however, further requirements had to be fulfilled. Based on the outcome of the talks, the Länder-specific site proposals were submitted to Brussels (see Natura 2000 site) at the end of January 2005.

Assessing additional site proposals:

The following shows the assessment results from various biogeographic seminars compared with the current assessment following the bilateral talks. While additional sites must be proposed to rectify IN MOD status (insufficient representation, moderate), amendments to the Standard Data Form can suffice to correct IN MIN status (insufficient representation, minor). The identified deficits are distributed across the various German states (Länder), considerably reducing the number of deficits in each individual state
