Ecologically compatible / environmentally friendly tourism

Ecologically compatible tourism is by definition compatible with the environment in the sense of the whole spatial setting. Its key features are its minimal impact on natural systems, minimal land consumption, minimal modification of scenery, and maximum possible conservation of a semi-natural cultural landscape.

As the tourism industry is not only the cause but also the victim of environmental damage, since the impairment of the environment, nature and landscape can immediately have an economic effect, protecting the environment has emerged as a dual policy aim: protecting it for tourist use, and protecting it from the damage caused by tourism by making tourism environmentally compatible.

The concept of "environmentally friendly" tourism is intended to enhance environmentally compatible tourism which does not stress or damage the environment, by achieving positive effects for the preservation of environmental quality.
