Asperulo-Fagetum beech forests

NATURA 2000 Code: 9130

Central European beech and beech-oak forests on calcareous or neutral but base-rich soils, in the planar to montane zones. The herbaceous layer is usually well developed, and is often rich in geophytes. At higher elevations there may be an admixture of Picea abies and Abies alba ('montane mixed forests' of base-rich soils).

Notes on habitat mapping:

This type is distinguished from the beech forest of the Cephalanthero-Fagion (9150) by the absence of the characteristic thermophile orchids.

Stands in the upper montane to subalpine zones at the timberline with sycamore in the tree layer are considered under type 9140.

Additional notes:

Entire sub-alliance: Eu-Fagenion = Asperulo-Fagenion (CORINE 41.13) and Lonicero alpigenae-Fagenion (CORINE 41.333).
