Amendments for the import of hunting trophies of Annex-B-species

The following important amendments come into effect for the import of hunting trophies of species of Annex B to Regulation (EC) 338/97 on 05.02.2015 (amendment of the Regulation (EC) 865/2006):

The facilities for the import of hunting trophies, which were obtained by the hunter through hunting for the hunter’s personal use, of Annex-B-species of the regulation (EC) 338/97 (import without import permit) are not more valid with immediate effect for species and populations which are additionally listed in the new Annex XIII to regulation (EC) 865/2006.

The following species are currently concerned:

  • Loxodonta africana (African Elephant-Annex B populations)

  • Cerathoterium simum simum (Southern white rhinoceros)

  • Panthera leo (Lion )

  • Hippopotamus amphibius (Hippo)

  • Ursus maritimus (Polar bear)

  • Ovis ammon (Altai Argali)

  • Ovis collium (Kasachisches Argali)

  • Ovis jubata (Shansi Argali)

  • Ovis darwini (Gobi Argali)

  • Ovis karelini (Tianschan Argali)

  • Ovis polii (Marco Polo Argali)

  • Ovis severtzovi (Severtzov's Argali)

Fort the import of hunting trophies of these species has to apply Article 4 of the Regulation (EC) 338/97 (according to Article 57 (3a) of the Regulation (EC) 865/2006). That means an import permit is required with immediate effect, issued by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation.

Please note, already existing import suspensions for the concerned above mentioned species have to implemented immediately. Applications for import permits must be refused in these cases. You can research the current import suspensions for the concerned species in the database ZEET
