BfN Schriften 490 - Analysis and prioritisation of pathways of unintentional introduction and spread of invasive alien species in Germany in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 1143/2014

Species
BfN-Schriften
According to Article 13 para 1 of the EU Regulation, each of the Member States has to provide for its territory an analysis and prioritisation of the unintentional (non-deliberate) pathways of introduction and spread for the species on the Union list by the beginning of 2018.

In our study, the method applied for the prioritisation of pathways and the results obtained for Germany are presented and discussed.

Description

For the purpose of the prioritisation presented here the pathways have been split into three invasion stages (introduction, escape or release, and spread incl. establishment)

Introduction pathways: describe routes and mechanisms through which an alien species reaches the reference area

Escape or release pathways: describe routes and mechanisms through which an alien species enters the natural environment (not under human care)

Spread pathways: describe routes and mechanisms that lead to extensions and/or shifts of an alien species’ area of distribution.
