Important notes

  • If you plan to import or export protected species or products thereof or have questions about the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), please contact CITES Management Authority.
  • If you need help in identifying species, please contact your regional nature conservation authority (untere Naturschutzbehörde) in your region or district (Landkreis) or – in the case of independent cities and towns (kreisfreie Städte) – your local administration.
  • Do you have legal questions about a project or process in the area where you live? With just a few exceptions, the state authorities are responsible for enforcing nature conservation law. If you have practical questions about the application of nature conservation law, please contact your regional nature conservation authority. For questions of national significance or of a fundamental nature, enquires can also be submitted to the highest nature conservation authorities in the various Länder (states).
  • All BfN (specialist) publications are available for download or can be ordered at "Publications".
