Joint CMS-CITES Technical Workshop under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning Conservation, Restoration and Sustainable Use of the Saiga Antelope (Saiga spp.)

01/04/2019 - 04/04/2019

Organiser
German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation in cooperation with the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS)
Chair
Andrea Strauss (BfN)
Participant
Representatives of CAMI range states and CAMI Species Focal Points, as well as experts on migratory species and their habitats in Central Asia.

The workshop is organized by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) with its International Academy for Nature Conservation together with the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS). It takes place in the frame of the Central Asian Mammals Initiative (CAMI), a coherent framework for conservation action in the region, developed under the CMS. In November 2014, CMS Parties adopted the Programme of Work (PoW) for CAMI, which aims to improve the conservation status of Central Asian large migratory mammals and their habitats, addressing major threats to migratory species and closing gaps in existing conservation instruments (see Resolution 11.24). The goals of this workshop are to identify trans-boundary and national conservation hotspots and conservation issues in the CAMI region, and to guide planning of trans-boundary conservation projects.
