Vilm, 18.10.2019. 47 experts from all over Europe gathered in a workshop on Vilm Island (14.-18.10.2019) in preparation of the 23rd meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA-23) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). They discussed the documents which will be negotiated at SBSTTA-23. The most important topics were:

- Scientific evidence base for a future global biodiversity framework
- Biodiversity and climate change - Sustainable wildlife management
- Description of ecologically significant marine areas in the North-East Atlantik Ocean

The suggestions put forward by the experts on Vilm Island are an important basis for the development of negotiation positions of many European member states to the CBD. But also other Parties to the CBD or NGOs make use of the arguments given in the so-called "Vilm report", which will be published shortly after the meeting.
