After the 4th Meeting of SBSTTA, and responding to the Recommendations, the German Federal Government decided to organize a workshop on case studies on sustainable tourism and biodiversity with the objective to compile examples and good practices of sustainable tourism.

The plan was to hold a technical meeting to examine the possible contributions of sustainable tourism to conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity. The Workshop was to assemble representatives from various regions of the world and also from various ecosystems important for tourism. A Concept Paper was prepared and sent out to invited participants.
