Der IUCN World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress ist das einzige große, weltweite Treffen speziell zum Thema Schutzgebiete und anderweitig geschützte Gebiete und wird entscheidende Weichen für die Weiterentwicklung von Schutzgebieten im nächsten Jahrzehnt stellen. Im Rahmen des Vorbereitungsworkshops auf Vilm wurden für Themen des Kongresses wichtige inhaltliche Grundlagen und Empfehlungen erarbeitet, die dann an das Steering Committee des Kongresses weitergeleitet werden.

The IUCN World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress (formerly World Parks Congress) is the only major global meeting specifically dedicated to protected areas and other protected areas and will set the course for the further development of protected areas in the next decade. During the preparatory workshop on Vilm, important prerequisites and recommendations for the congress topics were developed, which will then be forwarded to the congress steering committee.
