* Calcareous fens with Cladium mariscus and species of the Caricion davallianae
Sedge beds of the Cladietum marisci dominated by the Great fen-sedge (Cladium mariscus) as well as communities transitional between Cladium beds and small-sedge fens on calcareous soils.
Notes on habitat mapping
The criterion for assignment to this habitat type is the dominance of the Great fen-sedge (Cladium mariscus). Cladium may occur adjacent to or form a mosaic with a number of fen communities which, however, are irrelevant for the identification and delimitation of this habitat type. The presence of a small number of culms is not sufficient for assignment to this habitat type.
Individual plants or stands of Cladium mariscus occurring within rich calcareous fens (Caricion davallianae) are, as components of the fen complex, to be assigned to the habitat type Alkaline fens (7230).
Comments
Proposal for amendment of name: 'Great fen-sedge beds (Cladietum marisci)', since the vegetation types of the Caricion davallianae are already included under 7230.
