International cooperation

New BfN study develops concrete recommendations to enhance biodiversity mainstreaming across sectors and strengthen the synergies between biodiversity related processes, for the development of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

Effectively mainstreaming biodiversity remains a critical challenge to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. A new BfN study, developed as part of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) working group "Post 2020 - Global Biodiversity Conservation" explores the mainstreaming of biodiversity in climate policy, urban planning, the financial sector and in environmental-economic accounting frameworks. Furthermore, options to strengthen the synergies between international agreements and conventions, relevant for biodiversity, are analysed. Concrete recommendations to strengthen mainstreaming and synergy agendas in the context of the GBF are made.
