Dunes with Hippophaë rhamnoides

Sea buckthorn (Hippophaë rhamnoides) scrub on grey dunes.

Natura 2000-Code
2160

Notes on habitat mapping

The criterion for the delimitation of this habitat type is the dominance of Hippophaë rhamnoides on coastal dunes. Individual plants are excluded.

This type differs from coastal dunes with Salix arenaria (2170) by its dominance of Hippophaë rhamnoides. Humid dune slacks with dominant Hippophaë rhamnoides are included.

Comments

It is essential that other natural scrub formations on dunes (e.g. Rosa pimpinellifolia) are included in Annex 1. Such sites are the primary sites for Sea buckthorn in Northern Germany, while on the other hand Sea buckthorn has been planted occasionally. On the Friesian Islands Sea buckthorn first colonized in the early 19th century.
