Galio-Carpinetum oak-hornbeam forests

Galio-Carpinetum oak-hornbeam forests on more clayey-loamy and intermittently dry soils, mostly in climatically favoured locations, predominately in sub-Mediterranean areas (thermophilous oak-hornbeam forests).

Primary woodlands, or secondary woodlands, i.e. replacement communities of beech forests.

Natura 2000-Code

Notes on habitat mapping

The woodlands are assigned to this type and distinguished from Sub-Atlantic (Stellario-Carpinetum) oak-hornbeam forests (9160) by the differential species for the Stellario-Carpinetum and the Galio-Carpinetum respectively. Stands in alluvial plains generally belong to the Stellario-Carpinetum. Subcontinental oak-hornbeam forests should be considered under habitat type 91G0. Ravine forests with a stronger Tilia platyphyllos or Acer pseudoplatanus element should, if appropriate, be considered under Tilio-Acerion forests of slopes, screes and ravines (9180).
